Key Battles: The players to watch on Sunday
Gael Clichy v Mikel Arteta
Gael Clichy is finally getting the recognition he deserves. The Frenchman was chosen by his peers as the Premier League's top left-back - a reward for a consistent season in which he has featured in every League game for the Gunners. The seemingly effortless way in which he can use pace and power in both defence and attack is unnerving and few leave the field having got the better of him. A first goal for the Club remains elusive - not for the want of trying - but the 22-year-old does have five assists. Clichy has hit the target seven times and charged forward 38 times successfully. In his primary duty he is up there with the best - he was won 40 tackles this term. Trying to get the better of the Arsenal man on Sunday will be Mikel Arteta, if he is passed fit after injury. The Spaniard is not your archetypal wide man and is probably more suited to the centre. However he has an incredible range of passing, short and long, that is often key to Everton's success. Arteta has had a quiet season by the high standards he set last campaign, scoring just once and creating seven more. His one dismissal of the came in the reverse fixture at Goodison Park.
Cesc Fabregas v Lee Carsley
Another player deserving of an accolade, Cesc Fabregas was voted the PFA Young Player of the Year last week. The midfielder has been outstanding once again proving that he is capable of dismantling even Europe's most elite and seasoned professionals. His performance in Milan will live long in the memory, as will the string of long-range strikes that illuminated the early part of the season. While the goals may have dried up, his ability to make them has certainly not. Fabregas has 20 assists for the season and has called goalkeepers into action on 45 occasions. He is equally comfortable in defence too. The 20-year-old has lost just 13 tackles since August. Everton's tough-tackling midfielder Lee Carsley has enjoyed a commendable return to form this season, stamping authority over midfields across the country The Irishman has made 41 clearances and eight interceptions, but he can foray forward as well. Carsley has made 10 dribbles and shot at goal 29 times.
William Gallas v Yakubu
Arsenal's captain William Gallas has had a strong season at the heart of the defence and has stayed, largely, injury free. The Frenchman has coped admirably with a string of different partners, rarely letting his own form suffer. Gallas has lost two tackles all season and made 56 clearances proving that he can mix it with the best. But the 30-year old has calmness and confidence on the field - he has made 11 dribbles, nine of them successful - and when well-placed is partial to an effort on goal. Gallas has hit the target eight times and scored four. Everton's record signing has had a mixed season, simply because you never know which Yakubu will turn up. If it is the one who has scored 13 times then Arsenal could be in for a tough afternoon. The Nigerian is a rough and rugged customer but with neat feet and a deadly injection of pace, he can unbalance the best of rearguards. Yakubu has hit the target 35 times and successfully completed half of the dribbles he has embarked upon.
